Ashampoo Snap is a screen-capture workspace for saving still images, scrolling pages, and screen recordings. It differs from the basic screenshot key because a capture opens into an editor where the user can crop, annotate, obscure, number, or export the result. Ashampoo Snap also recognizes text inside an image, records pointer activity, and assembles content that extends beyond the visible part of a window.
Choose the frame
The capture bar can target a rectangle, a detected window, a full display, or a fixed-size area. Guidelines and a magnified pointer view help place the boundary around small interface elements. A timed mode waits before taking one or several shots, which is useful when a menu disappears as soon as another control receives focus.
Window detection saves time, but the detected outline is only a starting point. A browser frame can contain its title bar, toolbar, border, and scrollbar even when the required result is only the page. Ashampoo Snap lets the user adjust the rectangle before confirming it. An option that confirms immediately after the mouse button is released removes that adjustment step, so it suits repeated captures only after the target size is settled.
Build long captures
Scroll capture takes several screenshots while a page or document moves, then joins them into one image. It works vertically or horizontally. The selected area must exclude scrollbars and other window furniture because those parts stay still while the content moves. Sticky banners and floating navigation buttons cause the same problem and can appear repeatedly in the assembled result.
Pages that fetch more material near the bottom need preparation. The manual directs the user to scroll through the content first so the missing sections load before capture begins. Very long pages can create images large enough to strain memory, and Ashampoo Snap applies an internal dimension limit. Content beyond that limit does not appear in the final image.
Edit the evidence
The editor adds arrows, shapes, numbered steps, text, blur, and pixelation without returning to another graphics program. Objects remain movable while the project is open, so a label can be repositioned instead of painted permanently in the wrong place. A color picker stores sampled colors and copies their values in several notations. The palette can also leave as a CSS-oriented file or a small image for another editor.
OCR places recognized passages in a text panel and copies the newest result to the system clipboard. Recognition languages come from Windows language packs. Adding a language inside Ashampoo Snap therefore leads to Windows display-language installation rather than a self-contained dictionary download. Image clarity and the chosen language still affect recognition, so extracted text needs a quick comparison before it is reused.
Record the screen
Video capture records a chosen region and can display mouse clicks or keyboard input for demonstrations. Recording quality can be reduced when file size matters, and completed clips can be cut, joined, or converted into an animated GIF. Live annotations use the capture color scheme and appear during the recording.
A fixed capture region deserves a short test before a long session. Notifications, an uncovered password field, or a window moved outside the frame become part of the recording. Ashampoo Snap edits cuts after capture, but it cannot reconstruct material that was outside the selected rectangle.
