TSR Watermark Image is a Windows program from TSR Software for stamping text, logos and frames onto large sets of photos in one run. It is aimed at people who publish photos online and want each copy marked with a name or copyright notice. The free download is the full program; until you enter a license code, it adds the line “Unregistered TSR Watermark Image” to every processed picture. Three paid editions remove that line and add sharing and metadata functions.
Building a watermark setup
A setup in TSR Watermark Image combines the list of source pictures, the watermark settings and the output settings. You can save a setup under a name and reopen it later. You can add pictures singly, as whole folders or by drag and drop. You choose one image from the list as the preview. The program shows the watermark on it as you adjust the settings.
Text, logo and 3D marks
A text watermark has its own font, bold or italic style, antialiasing, color and angle, where 0 degrees runs horizontally and 90 degrees vertically. You set its size as a percentage of the picture’s width or height. This keeps the mark in the same proportion on a small thumbnail and a full-resolution photo. Emboss, chisel and colored-border styles are available, as are symbols such as ©, ® and ™.
An image watermark places a logo or other picture on each photo, with controls for transparency, position and a 3D effect. You can scale the logo by percentage or by pixel size. A counter adds a running number to each output image, either continuing from the last session or starting over. Separately, the program can write the copyright text into the EXIF copyright field. The ownership notice then remains in the file even if someone crops or edits out the visible mark.
A border effect draws a frame around the picture with its own color, transparency, width (as a percentage of the image) and distance from the edge. Several watermark profiles in one setup are limited to the paid version.
Output files and metadata
TSR Watermark Image always writes to a destination folder that differs from the source folder, because a watermark cannot be undone once applied. When a file with the same name already exists in the destination, the program either overwrites it or skips it. You can save pictures as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP or GIF, with an adjustable quality level. You can also resize them during the same pass. The program can also rotate photos by their EXIF orientation tag. It takes DPI from the source or sets it to 72. Multiple output profiles require a paid edition.
Metadata handling differs by edition. The free version copies only EXIF data to the watermarked copy. Professional also carries XMP and IPTC information over, and Professional + Share copies the full range of metadata groups, including GPS, ICC profiles and camera maker notes. Multipage TIFF files are supported from Professional + Share upward.
Uploading the results
The paid editions can post finished images straight to a Facebook timeline or group. Professional + Share adds one-click upload to a WordPress media library (no FTP access to the site needed) and to an ordinary FTP server. It also includes 225 additional fonts designed for watermarks. Secure Share adds upload to FTP servers over SSL/TLS.
Unattended batch runs
You can pass a saved setup file with the .wmi extension to the program from the command line. TSR Watermark Image then processes every picture in that setup and closes when the run finishes, which suits scripts and scheduled tasks.
