Overview

VPN.lat is a free VPN app for Android, iPhone, and iPad that connects to servers in different countries. It encrypts the VPN connection and hides the device’s public IP address. The Android app includes advertising and optional in-app purchases. Android users can establish the core VPN connection without registration, a login, or a credit card. The app encrypts connections to protect personal data on public Wi-Fi hotspots.

Country and city choices

VPN.lat presents countries as a list of names and flags. Its destinations include locations in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Within a location, city-level server entries identify individual endpoints by city name and hostname.

Several endpoints can share the same city while using different hostnames. The server list shows ping readings in milliseconds beside individual entries. Some servers also carry fast or crowded labels. Users can compare these entries before choosing the endpoint for a connection.

Connection state

The main connection screen keeps the chosen server in a panel at the bottom. A green Start button initiates the VPN connection. Before connection, the status reads Not Connected; once the tunnel starts, the screen shows Connected and a red Disconnect button.

Disconnect ends the active VPN session. The same screen keeps the protocol selector above the connection button, so the active connection and its transport choice appear together.

Choose a protocol

VPN.lat supports OpenVPN and WireGuard on both Android and the Apple app. The Android connection screen abbreviates these choices as OVPN and WG. Selecting a protocol determines which connection method the app uses for the selected server.

Android offers both protocols on most servers rather than every endpoint.

App routing on Android

Split tunneling controls which Android applications use the VPN. Users choose apps for the VPN route and apps that connect directly through the local network. The app applies those routing choices to their traffic, rather than treating every application as one group.

An application that uses the direct route does not send its traffic through the VPN connection. Other applications can continue using the VPN server.

Apple app controls

The Apple app provides one-tap connection and country search. Entering a country query finds a destination without manually scanning the full list. Its connection protocol choices include both OpenVPN and WireGuard.

App data

On Android, it can share app-performance information and device identifiers with third parties. The Apple app can use interaction data for advertising and collect crash and performance diagnostics.
