WinZip System Utilities Suite
Description
Corel Corporation took the WinZip brand — long associated with file compression — into PC optimization software with the WinZip System Utilities Suite. The product aims at the same user problem that CCleaner, Advanced SystemCare, and other similar products solve: Windows installations that slow down over time due to accumulated junk files, registry clutter, accumulation of startup programs, and fragmented storage. WinZip System Utilities Suite bundles the respective cleaning and optimization applications under the name recognition of the WinZip brand, which offers a suite approach where one purchase covers junk removal, registry repair, startup management, disk defragmentation, and privacy cleaning.
The suite competes in a crowded category of optimization tools by capitalizing on the WinZip brand’s established presence among Windows users, and combines familiar branding with a comprehensive maintenance toolset.
The PC Checkup scan works across all types of maintenance at once — junk files, registry problems, startup programs, disk fragmentation, and privacy traces — and displays a summary of found problems by category. A single repair action is applied to all the detected items or the user chooses the categories to be cleaned. The one-click approach takes care of routine maintenance in a short amount of time without requiring the user to navigate to each individual tool individually.
The disk cleaner cleans temporary files from Windows system folders, application cache directories, browser cache and history from installed browsers, windows update cleanup files, crash dump files, thumbnail databases and log files. Each category contains the file size detected before the removal. Browser cleaning includes Chrome, Firefox and Edge with independent control over which types of data to remove per browser — cache only, or cache and cookies and history together.
The registry cleaner looks for orphaned entries left behind from software uninstallation: file association references to removed programs, COM object registrations for components that no longer exist, invalid application paths, and broken shell extension entries. Detected entries are shown along with the registry key path and the type of issue. A backup is used to save the current state of the registry before anything is removed so that it can be restored if removing an entry causes an application to break.
The startup manager lists all of the programs set to start at Windows startup from registry Run keys, the Startup folder, and scheduled tasks. Each entry lists the program name, publisher, file path, and a WinZip-assigned rating of the impact the item has on startup time. Users enable or disable individual items from the manager. Disabled items are stored separately and re-enable from the same screen without reinstalling the software.
The disk defragmenter examines the fragmentation on traditional spinning-platter hard drives and reorganizes fragmented files to better sequential read performance. An analysis report displays the percentage of fragmentation before the defragmentation is started, and the visualization map displays which sectors of the drive have fragmented files. The tool bypasses solid-state drives, which don’t benefit from defragmentation and wear out faster from unnecessary write operations.
The privacy cleaner clears Windows activity traces: the recent documents list which can be accessed from the Start menu and Office applications, the Windows run history, clipboard contents, Windows Search history, and thumbnail cache. Scheduled privacy cleaning runs on a configured interval automatically.
The system monitor panel displays the CPU usage, RAM usage, disk activity and network throughput in real-time as live graphs. Hardware temperature readings for CPU and GPU are displayed along with the performance metrics for users who are monitoring thermal behavior during demanding tasks.
The duplicate file finder searches selected folders for files with the same content — photos saved twice, documents copied from one location to another, music files duplicated during library imports — and displays matching groups for examination. Users choose which duplicates to keep and delete the others, recovering storage space from redundant content.
The software updater compares installed applications with a database of up-to-date release versions to identify outdated software that may have security vulnerabilities or missing features. Detected outdated applications link to their official download pages for manual update.
