Wise Folder Hider controls access to selected files, folders and removable drives through three different methods. Hide removes an item from ordinary File Explorer views. Lock leaves it visible but can block opening, editing, renaming or deletion. Encrypt creates a separate Locker container for files that need storage encryption. Wise Folder Hider changes how local items appear and how they can be opened; it does not create an online backup or make a hidden file impossible to erase through disk loss.
Hide is not encrypt
Dragging a file or folder into Wise Folder Hider adds it to the hidden list. The same action is available through buttons and a File Explorer context-menu command. The item disappears from its usual location until the user opens or unhides it through the program. A second password can protect an individual hidden entry in addition to the main login.
Hiding conceals the normal path, but the file still occupies its original disk space. Someone who can reformat the drive, replace the operating system or inspect the storage outside the normal Windows session faces a different problem than someone casually browsing File Explorer. Material that needs encryption belongs in a Locker rather than relying on visibility alone.
The context-menu command also has scope limits. The official manual warns against hiding application shortcuts, drive roots and system folders. Removing a path that Windows or another program expects can break navigation or startup behavior before the user returns it.
Open means temporary
A hidden entry has two distinct commands. Open reveals its location for the current session, and Wise Folder Hider hides it again when the program closes. Unhide returns the item permanently to ordinary visibility. Choosing Unhide when the intention was a short edit leaves the material exposed until it is hidden again manually.
This distinction matters during file editing. Open lets another program read and save the visible file, but closing Wise Folder Hider while that program still has the file open can interrupt the expected workflow. Saving the document and closing the editor before ending the hiding session avoids leaving an application with a path that has disappeared again.
Lockers reserve space
An encrypted Locker is a container with a capacity chosen when it is created. Wise Folder Hider mounts the Locker so it appears as accessible storage, then files can be copied into it and edited normally. Unmounting closes that working view and returns the container to its protected state. A separate Locker password can add another credential beyond the main login.
The capacity cannot be changed after creation. Choosing a Locker that is too small means creating another container and moving the contents, while an oversized Locker reserves more room than the current files need. Capacity should account for likely growth before sensitive material moves into it.
A mounted Locker is in its usable state, so walking away without unmounting it weakens the point of the encrypted container. Wise Folder Hider does not infer when the user has finished. The session needs a deliberate unmount after the final file closes.
Removal changes protection
Deleting a Locker entry through Wise Folder Hider stops protecting it through the list; it does not mean the same thing as securely erasing every byte of its contents. After removal, the container can be copied, moved or deleted like another file. Similarly, deleting an original disk, losing a USB device or suffering filesystem damage can destroy a hidden or encrypted item.
Wise Folder Hider should therefore sit beside a separate backup rather than replace one. The backup itself needs protection appropriate to the same sensitivity, because an unencrypted copy defeats the Locker. Passwords also need an independent recovery plan: encryption protects the contents precisely by refusing access when the correct credential is unavailable.
