Overview

Wise Force Deleter is a free Windows utility for unlocking and deleting files and folders that resist normal removal. It handles targets that produce errors such as access denied, sharing violations or a message that another program is using the file. Users choose the unwanted items, review a deletion list and confirm their removal.

File locks

A file can remain unavailable for deletion while a running process is using it. Wise Force Deleter addresses that obstacle by terminating the processes holding the file or removing the file-access restrictions that prevent deletion. Unlocking is part of its removal operation: the main action combines releasing the target with deleting it.

The program works on specified files and folders. This lets a user direct the operation at a known unwanted item rather than search a drive for material to clean up.

Deletion list

The Add File and Add Folder controls collect targets in the main window. Files and folders can also be dragged into the program, and a folder can be added by entering its path. Several targets can therefore be prepared for the same deletion operation.

Wise Force Deleter also adds a Force Delete entry to the file’s right-click menu in Windows. Choosing it transfers the file to the program’s list; the menu command does not immediately remove it.

Remove takes an item out of the pending list without deleting it from the drive. Unlock & Delete then applies to the targets remaining in the list.

Permanent deletion

Unlock & Delete opens a confirmation prompt before removing the listed items. The program marks a successfully removed file as Deleted, making the result visible in the list. Files deleted this way bypass the Windows Recycle Bin, so they cannot be restored through its usual Restore command.

File and folder deletion is also available through the command line, allowing removal to be invoked from a command prompt as well as the graphical interface.
