Overview

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition combines a Radeon graphics driver with a Windows application for controlling game graphics, display behavior and supported GPU settings. It brings driver updates, game statistics, performance tuning and gameplay capture into the same interface. Its controls apply to consumer Radeon graphics, with individual features varying by hardware and application.

AMD Software: PRO Edition is a separate package for Radeon PRO workstation graphics, with professional application certification and OEM validation. Adrenalin’s game profiles, capture tools and tuning controls belong to its consumer graphics application; PRO is not a paid feature-unlocking tier of Adrenalin.

Game profiles in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition

Global graphics settings apply across 3D applications, while an individual application profile stores choices for a particular game. A profile identifies the application’s executable and applies its settings when that application launches. This allows one game to use different image-quality or frame-control options from another.

Graphics controls include anti-aliasing, which smooths jagged edges, and anisotropic filtering, which improves texture detail on surfaces viewed at an angle. These settings change how images are rendered. More intensive anti-aliasing can reduce frame rate, so its visual effect comes with additional graphics work.

Resolution scaling and HYPR-RX

Radeon Super Resolution takes a game rendered below the monitor’s native resolution and upscales the output to fill that resolution. Its sharpening slider adjusts the appearance of the scaled image. RSR works through the driver in compatible exclusive-fullscreen games, including games without their own FSR option.

AMD Software also offers HYPR-RX, a profile that enables and tunes several supported features together, including Anti-Lag, frame generation and resolution scaling. HYPR-RX Eco instead combines frame generation with Radeon Chill’s adaptive frame-rate control. The available combination depends on the graphics hardware and game.

Frame generation, latency and display timing

Several Adrenalin tools act on different parts of the path between a game’s rendering work and the image shown on screen:

  • AMD Fluid Motion Frames: generates additional frames through the driver for supported DirectX 11 and 12, Vulkan and OpenGL games. It can be enabled globally or for one game. Supported newer graphics can use borderless fullscreen, while Radeon RX 6000 graphics use exclusive fullscreen; AFMF operates with VSync disabled.
  • Radeon Anti-Lag: controls how far CPU work queues ahead of GPU work, reducing the delay caused by that queue in supported DirectX games. Anti-Lag 2 is a separate in-game implementation that needs integration by the game’s developer.
  • Radeon Chill: raises frame rate toward a selected cap during movement and lowers it when little movement occurs. Frame Rate Target Control instead sets a maximum for fullscreen applications, without Chill’s movement-based adjustment.

FreeSync display synchronization

FreeSync synchronizes a compatible display’s refresh rate with the graphics card’s frame rate. This reduces tearing and stutter caused by mismatched display and rendering timing. It uses variable-refresh support over HDMI or DisplayPort and depends on a compatible display as well as the graphics configuration.

Performance monitoring and GPU tuning

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition displays CPU and GPU usage, memory usage and frame-rate readings. They sit alongside tuning controls that change how supported graphics hardware operates.

Manual tuning exposes graphics-engine and memory clocks, GPU voltage, power levels and fan behavior. Fan controls adjust the response to temperature, while power tuning changes the power available to the GPU. Automatic presets make grouped adjustments to power and fan settings on supported hardware.

Custom tuning profiles can be saved, loaded and shared. A saved profile retains the selected configuration for later use rather than requiring each control to be adjusted again. The controls and automatic presets available in Adrenalin depend on the GPU.

Gameplay recording and audio capture

The full AMD Software package includes Record & Stream for capturing gameplay, the Windows desktop or a selected application. Microphone audio and an optional camera can be included. Captured screenshots, videos and GIFs can be saved locally, viewed in the media area or shared, alongside live-streaming functions.

Recording presets group resolution, frame rate and bit-rate settings, while custom controls expose them separately. Higher video or audio bit rates retain more data and produce larger recordings. AVC, HEVC and AV1 encoding options follow the GPU’s capabilities; AV1 encoding is available on RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 graphics.

Replay clips and microphone tracks

Instant Replay continuously records recent gameplay so a segment can be saved after it happens. Its duration control determines how much of that recent session is retained. Instant GIF instead creates a short animated clip with adjustable duration and quality.

Microphone controls set recording level and push-to-talk behavior. The microphone track can also be saved separately from the main recording, providing an independent audio file. Capture shortcuts and the media save folder are configurable.

Record & Stream captures a single display or an AMD Eyefinity display configuration. Protected video content cannot be recorded. OpenGL applications use desktop recording in windowed mode, and available capture resolutions and frame rates depend on the GPU.

AMD Noise Suppression

Noise Suppression filters background sound from microphone input, playback audio or both. The user chooses supported CPU or GPU processing, and the processed audio is exposed through the AMD Streaming Audio Device. Games and communication applications can use that virtual device for their input or output.

Local AMD Chat

On supported Radeon and Ryzen AI hardware, AMD Chat adds local GPU-assisted text responses to AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. It accepts questions about hardware and software, and uploaded documents can supply context for answers. Text-to-image generation uses Stable Diffusion through DirectML and runs when games or other intensive applications are not running.
