AnyTrans moves selected personal data between an iPhone or iPad, a computer, an iTunes library, and an iCloud account. It works above the ordinary file system exposed by a phone, so it can reach categories such as messages, contacts, notes, music, photos, and browser bookmarks. The user chooses a data category, previews its records, and selects what should move instead of copying the whole device as one opaque backup.
Device detection
The first task is making the phone visible to AnyTrans. A cable connection must carry data, the device must be unlocked, and the trust prompt must be accepted. On Windows, iPhone detection also depends on the Apple mobile-device driver normally installed with iTunes or its supporting components. Reinstalling AnyTrans alone does not repair a missing Apple driver.
Android detection follows a different route through USB or ADB drivers. A charging-only cable can power the phone while carrying no usable data, which makes the connection look healthy even though the device list stays empty. Testing another cable or USB port is more useful than repeating the same import command.
Selective transfer
AnyTrans groups photos into albums and camera categories, while music, contacts, messages, calendars, and other records have their own views. The preview matters when two devices hold overlapping material. It lets the user move one album or conversation rather than merging every item and discovering duplicates afterward.
File compatibility still applies. Unsupported items appear greyed out and cannot join the transfer. Some document types also need a receiving app selected on the device. A file that exists on the computer therefore does not guarantee that iOS has a destination capable of opening it.
The cable must stay connected until the progress step finishes. Disconnecting during a large photo or music copy can leave only part of the selection on the device. The duration depends on the item count and total data, not merely the number of categories selected.
Music without replacement
Adding music through AnyTrans does not require replacing the library already on the device. Tracks can arrive from more than one computer, and the user can inspect the destination before copying. This differs from a full library synchronization that treats one computer as the authoritative collection.
Music metadata still controls how the result looks. Missing artist, album, or artwork fields remain missing unless the source file contains them or the user edits them elsewhere. Moving a track does not repair its tags, and two files with different names can still represent the same recording.
Backups and exports
AnyTrans can create a full backup, add only later changes, or run a wireless backup on a schedule. Wireless operation needs the computer and device to remain reachable under the configured conditions. A sleeping laptop, a changed network, or a phone that has not completed the initial trusted connection can prevent the scheduled run without damaging the earlier backup.
Individual records can also leave the device in readable formats. Export settings decide how contacts, messages, calendars, and related data are written. Choosing a format is part of the recovery plan: a file that is easy to read in a spreadsheet may not be the right format for restoring into another address book.
Chat data
Supported messaging workflows can copy or archive content for services such as WhatsApp, LINE, and Viber. These transfers depend on the source device, destination, and the data layout that the messaging service currently uses. They should not replace the service’s own account recovery method until a test confirms that the expected conversations and attachments arrived.
The trial is deliberately narrow. It permits only a small number of transferred items during a short evaluation period. A successful test with a few contacts proves device recognition, but it does not measure the time or storage needed for an entire photo library.
