Glarysoft Disk SpeedUp is a free disk defragmenter for Windows. It analyzes how fragmented a drive is and rearranges the scattered pieces of files so each one sits in a continuous block. It also offers a more thorough Full Defrag pass. It runs on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows and is freeware.
Why fragmented drives slow down
When Windows saves, edits and deletes files over time, a single file often ends up stored in many separate fragments across a hard disk. Reading that file then requires the drive to collect each piece from a different location. Disk SpeedUp reorganizes those fragments so the drive can read files in one pass. This is the main way it aims to shorten load times for programs and documents.
Analyzing a drive before defragmenting
Disk SpeedUp starts with an analysis of the selected drive. The scan measures the fragmentation level and shows the result on an interactive drive map. This makes the condition of the disk visible before Disk SpeedUp moves any files. This lets the user decide whether a drive actually needs work or can be left alone.
Defrag and Full Defrag passes
After analysis, Disk SpeedUp can run a standard defrag, which joins fragmented files back together, or a Full Defrag for a more thorough process.
Automatic and scheduled defragmentation
Disk SpeedUp includes an automatic mode that decides when and how to defragment without the user starting each run. For a fixed routine, the program’s Options include a schedule. The user sets how often defragmentation runs and at what time. This allows it to run during hours when the computer is not in use.
Customizable presets store preferred settings, so users can reuse a chosen combination of options instead of configuring it each time.
Interface layout
The Disk SpeedUp window uses large, labeled buttons and tabs for its core areas: Defrag, Show and Settings. Basic analysis and defragmentation are available from the main controls. Advanced settings remain available for users who want finer control over how the program works. The program has a small footprint, so it can stay installed as a lightweight maintenance tool.
Relation to Glary Utilities
Glary Utilities, Glarysoft’s system maintenance suite, also includes the same defragmentation tool as Disk Defrag. Disk SpeedUp is the standalone version for users who only want defragmentation without the rest of the suite.
