Icecream Ebook Reader is a Windows application from Icecream Apps for reading digital books and organizing a local library. It opens EPUB, MOBI, PDF, FB2, CBR, CBZ, TXT and ZIP files. Basic reading is free, while PRO unlocks additional library, annotation and display controls. The reader does not support books with DRM protection.
Books in a local library
Readers add individual books through the Add book button or by dragging files into the application. PRO also imports folders containing several books. Double-clicking a library entry opens the book in reading mode.
Icecream Ebook Reader provides two collection views. Bookshelf displays cover thumbnails, while Table shows details such as title, author, reading progress and import date. The table also reports annotation counts. Filters show all books, recent reading, favorites or particular formats, and the library search locates titles within the collection.
Categories and removed books
PRO users create named categories and place books within them. They can rename or delete a category and edit a book’s title and author in the library. A star adds a book to the Favorites filter.
The Deleted folder holds books that the reader removes from the library. Its controls restore those entries to the collection or delete them from that folder.
Navigation within a book
The Contents panel opens the book’s contents and bookmark lists. Selecting an entry jumps to that location, and the bookmark control marks the current page for later access. In-book search accepts text or a page number.
Readers turn pages with the keyboard or page controls. A navigation bar also moves through PDF pages, while the comic view supports zooming and fitting a page to the window. Reading progress appears in the library and at the bottom of the reading view.
Page layout
Icecream Ebook Reader switches between single-page and double-page layouts. Text controls adjust the font, its size and line spacing, while alignment settings apply to EPUB, MOBI and FB2. Font changes do not apply to PDF, CBR or CBZ pages.
Day, Night and sepia themes change the reading colors. A dimmer adjusts brightness, and automatic page flipping advances pages at an interval that the reader chooses. PRO adds full-screen reading, which the F11 key toggles.
Writing annotations
Selecting a passage opens a menu with highlight colors. Readers can mark text in EPUB, MOBI, FB2 and TXT books. PRO adds written notes: the reader selects Add note, enters a comment and clicks outside its field to finish. PDF and comic books lack these text-highlighting tools.
The Notes panel collects the book’s annotations. Readers search their text, sort them by text or color, and select an entry to revisit its page. They can edit a comment or change its color. The panel’s bin icon deletes an annotation, and the passage’s context menu also offers Delete. Saving notes as HTML produces a separate document for use outside the reader.
Selected text
PRO copies selected book text to the clipboard. Other selection commands translate a passage or look it up through Google or Wikipedia.
Listening to book text
Read Aloud uses text-to-speech to speak book text. Its settings select a locale and voice, then adjust volume, speed and pitch. The available voices depend on the Windows speech settings.
After changing the system’s voice options, Refresh lists updates the reader’s available choices. More languages opens the corresponding Windows settings for additional voice packages.
Library backups
Export in Settings creates a copy of the library with its metadata. Import reads a previous export and restores that library state in Icecream Ebook Reader. The program supports this exchange between its own libraries; it does not import library databases from other ebook readers.
