The application is aimed at Windows users who are looking for a structured alternative to folder-based browsing for their ever-increasing collections of photos.
Photo Catalog and Import
Photo Manager Deluxe scans selected folders and drives, importing photos and videos into a catalog database that indexes the files by location, date, metadata, and technical details without moving the original files from their existing locations. Importing from cameras, memory cards and mobile devices is via USB and creates dated import folders automatically. The catalog updates when new files are found in watched folders, keeping the library up to date without having to re-import manually.
Intelligent Album Organization
Photos organize into albums that group images thematically or chronologically, independent of their physical folder location on the drive. An album is based on any combination of source folders — photos from a trip could be from a phone’s camera roll, a DSLR memory card import folder, and a scanned film folder — and are presented together in the album without the need to move any files. Albums nest into categories for hierarchical organization across events, years, people, and locations.
Facial Recognition
Photo Manager Deluxe identifies faces in photos and groups unidentified faces for review. The user names a detected face and the software identifies the same person throughout the catalog, suggesting photos of the same person for confirmation. Named face tags are applied to all confirmed photos and make the person searchable across the entire library. The facial recognition works on the local level without uploading images to external servers.
Geolocation and Map View
Photos that have the GPS coordinates in the EXIF metadata are displayed on an interactive map view, showing where each photo was taken. Photos without GPS data are given manually placed location tags in the map view. The map offers a geographic browsing mode in which the user searches for photos by navigating to a location instead of searching by date or name.
Search and Keyword Tags
The search function searches photos by keyword tags, date range, camera model, location, album name, face tag and any combination of these filters. Keyword tags are assigned manually to individual photos or batches — applying “vacation” and “beach” to all selected photos at once. Smart albums automatically populate with photos that match saved search criteria, and automatically update as new photos enter the catalog.
Quick Edit Tools
The in-built editing tools take care of basic corrections: brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, red-eye removal, crop and rotation. One-click auto-correction examines the photo and makes a recommended adjustment. The editing tools include the corrections that most users make to snapshots without using a dedicated photo editor, keeping the workflow within the catalog application for quick adjustments.
Slideshow Creator
The slideshow tool takes selected photos and arranges them into a timed slideshow with configurable transition effects and background music. Finished slideshows export as video files for sharing or play back within the application. Slideshow templates provide a consistent styling to events-based collections such as birthday parties and trips.
Duplicate Finder
The duplicate finder searches the catalog for duplicate or near-duplicate photos — the same photo saved in more than one place, photos captured in burst mode where several frames are nearly identical, or multiple imports of the same event. Duplicate photos are grouped for review, with tools for keeping the best copy and removing the rest.
