PC Tasks Optimizer is a Windows utility from Smart PC Utilities for switching off scheduled tasks that a user does not need. Windows and installed programs register many of these tasks, and they run in the background on a timer or when certain system events occur. The program gathers them into plain-language options so the user can turn groups of tasks off without opening Task Scheduler or knowing each task’s technical name.
Plain-language optimization options
The main window of PC Tasks Optimizer is a list of optimization options. Each describes what it stops rather than giving a task path. One example is an option to disable the periodic Windows Defender scans, which covers the tasks that let Windows Security run its scheduled scans. Each option groups one or more related scheduled tasks behind a single checkbox.
The checkbox works in both directions:
- A checked option disables every scheduled task associated with it.
- An unchecked option leaves its tasks as they are, or re-enables them if PC Tasks Optimizer had disabled them earlier.
Because unchecking reverses the program’s own changes, a user can try a configuration and later return individual options to their original state without a full restore.
Choosing individual tasks
Users who want finer control can expand any option to see the scheduled tasks it contains and toggle them one by one. This allows, for example, keeping one task from a group active while disabling the rest. Selecting a task opens an information pane with its description, its location in the Task Scheduler library and the path of the file it runs. From there, the user can open the folder holding the task’s executable in File Explorer. This helps identify which program a task belongs to before changing it.
Applying changes and the report
Nothing changes until the user clicks Optimize Tasks. PC Tasks Optimizer then applies the selected states, which usually takes a few seconds. When it finishes, a report dialog shows how many tasks were enabled and how many were disabled. Both lists include the name of each task. Users who do not need the report can turn it off in the settings.
Backups of the task configuration
Before each optimization run, PC Tasks Optimizer saves the current scheduled task configuration automatically. This behavior is on by default and can be switched off in the settings. A separate Backup & Restore menu lets the user create a backup at any time and restore an earlier one. A restore returns tasks to their saved state regardless of whether PC Tasks Optimizer or other software changed them. This also lets the user undo task changes that a different tool made.
Interface and settings
The main menu holds the settings dialog, update checking, a light or dark theme and a choice of accent color. PC Tasks Optimizer is available in English, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. The user can change the language from the status bar, and the change takes effect after a restart.
Other settings cover the program’s communication and diagnostics:
- Notifications about PC Tasks Optimizer, other Smart PC Utilities products and third-party offers, each controlled by its own switch.
- Automatic error reports to the developer, with an optional set of technical details such as the Windows version, processor and installed memory.
- A debug mode that writes a log of activity and errors to the user’s local application data folder for troubleshooting.
