Razer Cortex is a game launcher and Windows maintenance program that can detect installed games, change selected game settings, reduce competing background activity, display frame-rate information, and remove chosen temporary data. It works around a game rather than changing the game’s engine or upgrading the computer’s hardware. A boost can free resources that another process was using, but it cannot create processor speed, graphics memory, or network capacity that the machine does not have.
Games trigger boost
Razer Cortex can recognize a supported game when it starts from Cortex, the Start menu, or a desktop shortcut. With Auto-Boost enabled, detection triggers the configured background changes and restores them after the game closes. The player does not need to use Cortex as the only launcher.
Automatic resource control can affect software that the player still needs. Discord, a browser video, recording software, or another background task may become less responsive if boost settings restrict its process or CPU access. Disable Auto-Boost or the CPU Core option before assuming that the other program has failed.
Prime changes settings
Booster Prime works on supported games by changing their stored graphics or performance settings toward a selected frame-rate target. The green indicators show which values Cortex intends to adjust. This operation changes the game’s configuration; it does not overclock the graphics device or rewrite hardware firmware.
The game must be closed while Cortex edits its settings. A read-only settings file can also block the change. If optimization fails, close the game and its launcher, then check the file attribute before trying again. A computer that falls below the game’s minimum requirements may still lack enough capacity after lower settings are applied.
Colour can remain
Digital Vibrance can alter screen colour during play. Razer Cortex normally restores the previous colour state when the game exits. If Cortex closes unexpectedly, that restoration may not run and the desktop can retain the altered appearance.
The Restore control under Booster Prime returns the saved colour setting. Rebooting or changing the monitor profile first can make diagnosis harder because several colour systems then act on the same display. Restore the Cortex adjustment before changing the graphics driver’s permanent profile.
Clean selected data
System Clean scans chosen game platforms, browser locations, and Windows areas for temporary or removable files. The Summary view shows the categories found. Razer Cortex does not know whether every cookie, recent-file record, or cached download still matters to the user.
Review the cleanup choices and add exclusions before running a scheduled job. Removing a browser cookie can sign an account out, while deleting a game cache can force a later download. Scheduled cleanup repeats the same risk without another prompt if the selection remains too broad.
Restore Windows defaults
Speed Up changes selected disk-cache, desktop-menu, file-system, network, and Windows-service settings. These are operating-system settings rather than a temporary frame-rate overlay. Their effect can extend beyond the game that motivated the change.
Razer Cortex has a Restore to Windows Default action for these settings, and the restoration takes effect after a restart. A restored default is not necessarily the custom value that existed before another tuning program changed it. Record unusual network or service settings before applying a broad optimization.
FPS needs context
The in-game overlay can show frame rate, and Razer Cortex can create a chart after play. The overlay depends on game recognition and the supported installation layout. An unofficial build or a launcher installed separately from the game can prevent the overlay from appearing even when the game itself runs.
Frame rate records the number of rendered frames, not the cause of a slowdown. A falling chart can come from thermal limits, a crowded scene, storage access, or another process. Network lag can feel similar while the rendered frame rate remains steady. Compare the chart with temperature, hardware use, and connection behaviour before changing more settings.
