Overview

Microsoft PC Manager is a free maintenance utility from Microsoft for Windows 10 and Windows 11. It gathers cleanup, performance, storage and repair functions into one app. Users can start routine upkeep from a single window instead of opening several Windows settings pages and system tools.

Health checkup

The health checkup is a one-click scan of the computer’s general state. It looks for system files that are no longer needed, flags system problems that carry risk, and lists optimization suggestions. Users can fix the items it finds directly from the results. The same checkup also scans for threats and clears them.

Boost and automatic acceleration

Boost clears temporary system files and frees memory held by running programs, which releases resources and some disk space in one step. Microsoft PC Manager can also do this on its own. With intelligent acceleration, it automatically cleans temporary files and memory once temporary files reach 1 GB.

Storage cleanup and disk analysis

Deep cleanup scans the system more thoroughly than Boost, looking for junk such as unneeded files and the caches kept by browsers and other apps.

Storage management goes beyond junk files. PC Manager helps locate large files, downloaded files and duplicates, so the user can decide what to delete or move. Disk analysis breaks down drive usage by file type and suggests where users can free space. For ongoing maintenance, the app points to Windows Storage Sense, which lets Windows free up storage automatically.

According to Microsoft, these cleanup functions process data on the device. PC Manager does not read the contents of files.

Startup items, processes and uninstalling

Three related tools deal with installed and running software. Startup management lists the programs that launch with Windows and lets the user manage them to shorten boot time. Process management shows running application processes and closes the ones that are not needed to cut resource use. The uninstaller removes most installed applications, within the limits Windows places on which apps can be uninstalled.

Pop-up management

Pop-up management reduces advertising and promotional windows that some applications display. Blocking is selective: Microsoft PC Manager only blocks pop-ups from the apps the user chooses. Notifications from other programs keep appearing as usual.

Security and Windows repairs

Several functions connect PC Manager to parts of Windows itself:

  • Virus and threat protection starts a system scan through Windows Security to detect and isolate potential threats.
  • Windows Update brings available updates to the device from within the app. These updates aim to keep sound, display, internet connection and core devices such as the mouse and keyboard working.
  • Taskbar repair fixes the native Windows taskbar with one click and restores its default layout.
  • Reset default apps restores Windows apps to their default state.

Toolbox and mini toolbar

The toolbox collects shortcuts to built-in Windows utilities and links to useful web tools. Users can open them without searching through system menus. The app offers a separate mini toolbar alongside the toolbox.
