ScreenHunter captures still images and records video from selected parts of the desktop. It can take one rectangle, a fixed monitoring area, a window object, several window objects, a full monitor layout, a freehand shape, or a long scrolling page. ScreenHunter changes the visible screen into an image or video file; it does not download the original media or web document behind that screen.
Targets change the job
A rectangular capture begins with an area drawn by the user. A fixed area remembers exact coordinates and dimensions, which suits repeated captures of the same dashboard or camera view. Window capture can target a complete window, one control inside it, or several objects selected in sequence. Shape and freehand targets apply to still images rather than ordinary video recording.
Full-screen image capture can span several monitors. Recording all monitors demands much more processing and storage, so ScreenHunter recommends choosing one monitor when the computer cannot keep up. A monitor added or rearranged while ScreenHunter is open may not appear correctly until the program restarts.
Scrolling needs tuning
Auto scroll starts at the current position of a window or web page and moves downward while building one tall image. The process depends on how the target draws and scrolls its content. A page with changing sections can break the join, and one browser may cooperate where another does not.
The speed control matters because a fast scroll can move before the content finishes drawing. Slowing it down gives the page more time. Pressing Esc stops the process and keeps the portion collected so far, which is useful when only part of a long page belongs in the result.
Timers restrict targets
A delay postpones a capture or recording after the button or hotkey is pressed. ScreenHunter also schedules a job once, daily, weekly, monthly, or at startup. Scheduled work applies only to fixed areas, active or specific windows, and full-screen targets. A freely drawn region cannot be reconstructed reliably by a later unattended task.
Interval capture repeats a still image for a selected duration. It does not send every resulting image into the Image Editor. That omission avoids opening a stack of editing windows, but it means captions, names, folders, and overwrite behavior must be correct before the sequence begins.
Names prevent collisions
ScreenHunter writes still captures as JPG, PNG, PDF, GIF, TIF, or BMP. Automatic naming can combine note text, an increasing number, date, time, computer name, and user name. Date-based subfolders can separate daily batches without requiring the user to create each folder first.
The overwrite choice controls what happens when the generated name already exists. Never overwrite creates another numbered name. Ask pauses the workflow for a decision. Overwrite replaces the existing file. A fixed filename also replaces its earlier file, so it fits a current-status image but can silently destroy a capture history.
Profiles hold settings
A ScreenHunter profile retains the current capture and recording setup for later reuse. This matters because the target, cursor, caption, watermark, timer, file format, folder, and filename rules interact. Loading a named profile is safer than rebuilding a recurring job from memory.
The webcam and ScreenDraw controls can place a camera view or live drawing into a recording. They affect the recorded output rather than creating separate source files. If the clean desktop and the presenter camera need independent editing later, they must be recorded separately instead of burned together.
Capture is not editing
The Image Editor modifies a captured still after the screen has been converted into an image. Video trimming and conversion belong to a separate recorder product rather than the main ScreenHunter recording path. Choosing the final frame size, sound setting, frame rate, and destination before recording reduces the need for another processing step.
