Wondershare Video Converter, now offered as Wondershare UniConverter, is a video conversion and media toolkit for Windows and macOS. It prepares video and audio files for different players, editing applications and sharing destinations. Alongside format conversion, it provides compression, clip editing, screen recording and disc authoring, with AI tools for enhancing footage and handling subtitles.
Converting formats with Wondershare Video Converter
Conversion starts with imported files or a folder of media. You choose an output format such as MP4, MOV, MKV or AVI, then select a resolution preset or adjust the available video and audio settings. Device presets provide another route to an output suited to a particular phone or player.
Audio extraction saves a video’s soundtrack separately in formats including MP3, WAV and FLAC; GIF conversion and JPG or PNG image sequences turn moving footage into other kinds of media.
Wondershare UniConverter also controls what accompanies the picture. Its audio-track menu can retain multiple audio tracks, while compatible outputs preserve subtitles and metadata. Audio passthrough keeps the original sound without encoding it again when the destination format supports it. Lossless conversion similarly avoids re-encoding compatible media; converting to a different codec or applying compression can change the result’s quality.
Conversion queues
A batch queue applies conversion settings to several imported files together. On Windows, Watch Folder extends this to recurring work: you select a folder to monitor, an output location and a target format. New files arriving in that folder enter the conversion workflow automatically while monitoring is active. Pausing the watcher suspends monitoring while keeping the folder choices.
Performance controls affect how the queue uses the computer. GPU acceleration can assist compatible conversion tasks, and the CPU preference controls whether conversion can use the full processor. Available acceleration depends on the hardware, drivers and chosen output settings.
Compression
The compressor works toward a smaller file rather than simply choosing another extension. You can set a target size, inspect the estimated output and adjust the balance between size and picture quality. Advanced settings expose parameters such as bitrate, resolution, frame rate and encoder.
For a collection of videos, Wondershare UniConverter can apply shared compression settings or retain different choices for individual files. This accommodates a folder in which some clips need a smaller frame size while others mainly need a lower bitrate. The exported file reflects those settings; a smaller target does not imply that every detail will remain unchanged.
Editing clips and subtitles
The editor trims unwanted passages, splits longer recordings, crops the frame and combines clips. Speed adjustment changes how quickly footage plays, while watermark and effect controls alter its presentation.
Subtitles have their own editing controls. You can create captions, import local SRT files and adjust their position, font, size, color and opacity before exporting the processed video. Translation tools produce another language’s captions.
Video enhancement
Wondershare UniConverter’s enhancer processes the image itself. You import footage, choose an enhancement model and select an output resolution. The Windows quality-enhancement workflow provides a short preview with Original and Result views, letting you compare a sample before exporting the whole video. Its models address tasks such as improving soft detail, reducing noise and enhancing faces; the appropriate choice depends on the footage and the intended result.
Media capture
The Windows screen recorder captures a full display or a selected area, with separate choices for system sound and microphone audio. An optional webcam view adds the speaker to the recording. Format, frame rate and quality settings determine the saved capture, which can then move into UniConverter’s conversion or editing tools.
For supported online media, the Downloader accepts one URL or several URLs on separate lines. It saves available video or audio and can convert the downloaded media afterward. Available subtitle tracks can accompany downloads, and recognized chapters can become separate files. Compatible M3U8 streams are supported, while account-restricted content requires the appropriate access and DRM restrictions remain in place.
Disc authoring
Videos can become a DVD with a selectable menu template, background picture and background music. Disc settings include the label, aspect ratio, TV standard and quality. Wondershare UniConverter can write the result to a physical disc or create a DVD folder or ISO image for later use. Blu-ray creation is available in the Windows edition.
Trial limits and AI credits
Wondershare Video Converter offers a limited trial and paid subscription or perpetual plans. The Windows trial limits video and audio conversion to one-third of the source length. Paid basic-feature access does not provide unlimited AI processing: enhancement and other AI tools use credits. Windows and Mac licenses are sold separately, and their feature sets differ.
