WordPerfect File Converter is a Windows application that converts legacy documents into current document and data formats. WPD Converter processes files locally with a bundled conversion engine. The software offers a limited free trial, paid Standard licenses, and an optional Conversion Library Plus add-on.
Archive discovery
Browse File selects an individual document, while Browse Folder scans a directory tree. The subfolder option includes nested folders in the search. Content detection identifies WordPerfect documents from their contents, so an archive can contain files without a WPD extension.
The discovered-file tree shows the batch before conversion. Users can add more files, search the tree, and check which entries to process. WordPerfect File Converter skips corrupt or password-protected documents and reports them rather than stopping the entire batch.
Choosing the output
The format controls offer DOCX, PDF, RTF, TXT, ODT, HTML and Markdown. Selecting several targets produces those formats during the same run. The converter can place new files beside their originals or send them to another folder.
An export can mirror the source folder hierarchy or flatten the output into one directory. Replace Original instead removes a WPD source after its conversion succeeds. A progress bar follows the run, and the completion dialog provides access to its session log.
Advanced formatting
WPD Converter’s Advanced Options map a legacy WordPerfect font name to a font on the computer. PDF font embedding includes fonts in the PDF output. Saved presets retain the format, destination and advanced settings for another batch.
Metadata export writes author information, dates and keywords to CSV alongside the converted documents. Conversion reports also provide CSV output and PDF summaries.
Complex WordPerfect layout rules can change during conversion. Page-number placement, headers, footers and Reveal Codes may not reproduce exactly. Font substitution and embedding adjust output formatting without guaranteeing an identical page layout.
Quick jobs and folder watches
WPD Converter’s Explorer integration accepts a WPD file or folder through the Convert with WPD Converter command. It opens a Quick Convert interface instead of the full application. Watched-folder mode handles repeated arrivals: users designate a folder, and the program automatically converts new WPD files that enter it.
Database exports
The DataPerfect databases mode accepts a STR structure file or a folder of databases. WordPerfect File Converter reads the accompanying panel data automatically. CSV export writes a separate file for each panel. Excel export puts panels on separate worksheets, while SQLite export creates a separate table for each panel.
WordPerfect Notebooks mode accepts NB files or a folder containing them. It reads Notebook files and text-form secondary merge files, then writes CSV, an Excel workbook, or a SQLite database. Folder exports preserve the hierarchy, so notebooks with matching names in different folders do not overwrite one another.
Conversion Library
Conversion Library Plus opens an output folder as a local library. Its index reads document contents across DOCX, PDF, HTML, Markdown and text. Search results include snippets; quoted phrases narrow a query, and Refine filters the results by file type or folder.
Named searches save queries for reuse. Preview tabs display documents inside the library, with a separate find-in-document control. The library also opens SQLite databases and shows readable text from Excel workbooks.
Several libraries can remain on the navigation rail. Users can rename or pin their entries and resume an earlier library when reopening the window. Removing an entry from that rail leaves the files on disk.
Organizing a review set
Tags label documents, while bookmark groups collect particular files. The knowledge map links related items through shared folders, filename stems and terms from the index. Selecting those relationships navigates between documents.
A review pack takes search hits, bookmarks or a manual selection and copies that subset for review. It preserves relative paths where possible and includes index.csv and summary.md. Library history records activity such as indexing, conversion batches, search runs and review-pack exports.
Standard versus Plus
WPD Converter’s installer contains the converter and its optional library. Standard removes the conversion trial limit; a Plus key unlocks Conversion Library. Personal and commercial licenses cover their respective uses through a one-time purchase.
After a batch, Plus users can open the new outputs in Conversion Library and index that run. Standard users can open the output folder in Explorer. An automatic-open preference brings the library back after later conversions.
