Overview

X-plore File Manager arranges storage as two folder trees. The highlighted pane is the source for the current file operation, while the inactive pane holds the destination for Copy or Move. The trees can point to local storage or an archive. They can also point to a remote server, cloud account, or connected device. This dual-pane model keeps the source and destination visible together on a wide screen.

The destination can remain active while it is off screen

A small portrait screen cannot show both folder trees at once. X-plore File Manager can hide the inactive pane beyond the screen edge while keeping its folder as the destination. The visible folder name and blue arrow at the top identify that destination. The highlighted pane still supplies the selected files, and the hidden inactive pane still receives the Copy or Move operation.

The clipboard workflow separates selection from transfer. “Copy to clipboard” records the selected items without starting a copy. Paste starts the operation after the destination folder is active. X-plore File Manager disables Paste when the destination is read-only or identical to the source. It also disables Paste when the chosen destination is a child of a copied folder.

Copy progress can continue after the progress dialog disappears from the screen. The notification area can bring that dialog back. X-plore File Manager runs only one copy operation at a time, so another copy cannot start while the hidden operation remains active. This limit applies even when the visible file trees no longer show the progress dialog.

Wi-Fi sharing starts a server on the local network

X-plore File Manager can publish local storage through its Wi-Fi sharing server. Another device running X-plore File Manager can open that server on the same network. A web browser can open it too. The server therefore turns the device into the source for a local transfer session without requiring a remote cloud account.

The Wi-Fi server has a password control and a configurable port. It also has read-only mode and an autostart option. Read-only mode keeps the shared material available without granting remote write access. The autostart option controls whether the server starts automatically rather than waiting for a manual start.

The server exposes local mass storage and installed apps. X-plore File Manager does not pass through remote locations that appear elsewhere in its file trees. A cloud account or remote server mounted in the file manager therefore remains outside the Wi-Fi sharing server. The local server boundary is narrower than the complete set of locations that the dual-pane view can browse.

Vault stores files inside encrypted ZIP catalogs

Vault uses AES-256 encryption inside ZIP catalogs. X-plore File Manager can place the file data in a nested archive, which hides original filenames from the outer catalog. The password opens the Vault data and controls access to the encrypted archive.

A lost Vault password has no reset path. Changing a known password starts another process: X-plore File Manager re-encrypts the Vault data with the replacement password. That work can take time because the password change reaches the encrypted contents rather than updating a simple account field.

Root mode reaches protected system files

On a rooted device, Root mode lets X-plore File Manager modify protected system files.
