Yahoo Mail App is a mobile inbox for reading, sending and organizing messages stored in a Yahoo account. It can keep several Yahoo identities in one app and link supported Gmail, Outlook or AOL mailboxes so their messages appear without switching to separate apps. Yahoo Mail App synchronizes with the mail services behind those accounts. It does not move ownership of an external address to Yahoo, and removing a linked mailbox from the app does not delete that mailbox at its original provider.
Accounts stay separate
The profile menu lists the signed-in mailboxes and lets the user switch between them. Each account keeps its own Inbox, Sent folder and server-side organization. A message sent while the wrong identity is active can expose an unintended address, so the From line deserves a check before sending mail that crosses work and personal accounts.
Linking an external mailbox asks its provider for permission. The provider may show its own authentication page and list the access being granted. If authorization expires or the provider changes its security requirement, Yahoo Mail App can stop synchronizing that mailbox while the Yahoo account continues to work. Yahoo’s help directs the user to remove and link the mailbox again when incorrect server details cannot be edited.
Views regroup messages
Yahoo Mail App can group mail into views for attachments, receipts, travel or subscription messages. These views are shortcuts over the mailbox rather than new independent copies. Deleting a message inside a grouped view deletes the underlying message according to the account’s folder rules.
Search also works over synchronized content and the server index. A newly linked mailbox may need time before older results appear. Searching for a sender address is more exact than relying on a display name, which several contacts or mailing lists can share.
Notifications depend on permission
The app can alert for new mail, but the phone controls whether those alerts reach the screen. Disabled notification permission, battery restrictions or a muted account can suppress a banner even though the message has arrived. Opening the Inbox refreshes the account; it does not prove that earlier notification settings worked.
Several accounts can also generate more alerts than expected. Per-account notification choices separate an urgent mailbox from a high-volume mailing-list address. Marking a message read on one synchronized device should reach the server, although a delayed connection can leave another device showing the earlier state for a while.
Deleting can synchronize
A swipe action can archive or delete depending on the selected setting. Those outcomes differ: archive removes the message from the Inbox but retains it in the account, while delete sends it toward Trash. Because the app works against the server, the same change can appear in webmail and on another phone.
Trash retention belongs to the mail provider. Yahoo Mail App cannot promise recovery after the server empties that folder. Important attachments need storage outside the mailbox before a cleanup, especially when the message also disappears from other synchronized devices.
Passwords have two roles
The official Yahoo app normally uses Yahoo’s own sign-in flow. A third-party mail program that lacks that flow may need a generated app password instead of the main password. The distinction matters when the same account works in Yahoo Mail App but fails in another mail program.
Changing the main Yahoo password does not necessarily revoke an existing app password. Yahoo states that app passwords remain active until the user deletes them in account security. Removing an unused one closes that access without changing the main sign-in. Account recovery details and two-step verification remain Yahoo account settings, not mailbox controls inside the app.
