GiliSoft Video Converter is a Windows media converter for changing a video or audio file into a different codec, container, resolution, or device profile. It can process a batch, compress large footage, extract sound, and make limited edits before export. GiliSoft Video Converter always creates another media file; it does not alter the codec inside the source without an export step. A successful conversion therefore depends on the chosen output profile as much as the input file.
Pick the output
The Output Format menu combines file formats with profiles for devices and delivery targets. A familiar extension does not settle every compatibility question. Two MP4 files can use different video codecs, frame sizes, audio formats, or color characteristics. Open Output Settings when the destination has a stated requirement rather than relying on the first MP4 preset.
Resolution and bitrate affect both size and detail. Lowering them can make a file easier to send, but it cannot preserve every texture from a larger source. Raising the bitrate above the source does not restore detail that earlier compression removed. Convert a short sample with movement and fine text before sending a long batch through the same profile.
Trim before encoding
The GiliSoft Video Converter Cut window has two distinct modes: keep the selected interval or remove it. Confusing those choices can turn a short excerpt into the entire recording except that excerpt. Check the start and end preview, then give the result a new name until the chosen section has been verified.
Crop removes edges of the picture and can change the composition. It works for fixed black bars or an unwanted border, but a moving subject may leave the selected area later in the clip. Rotate changes orientation, while changing aspect ratio can stretch the picture if the profile does not preserve proportions.
Merge matching material
Merge Files into One places queued items in one exported file. Put the inputs in the intended order before starting. Sources with different dimensions, frame rates, or audio layouts still need one common output profile, so the converter must rescale or reinterpret some material.
Play each join after conversion. A cut can expose a silent gap, an abrupt audio level change, or a frame-rate transition that the queue view does not show. GiliSoft Video Converter joins the streams according to the export settings; it does not edit the scene to make unrelated clips feel continuous.
Burn in subtitles
The GiliSoft Video Converter subtitle panel accepts SRT and ASS files and controls position, text encoding, size, and font. Check that the subtitle timing matches the exact source edit. Removing an introduction changes every later timestamp unless the subtitle file receives the same offset.
A wrong character encoding can turn names or non-Latin text into unreadable symbols. A missing font can change line breaks. When subtitles become part of the rendered picture, the player cannot switch them off afterward. Keep the original subtitle file and inspect several early and late captions before deleting the working copy.
Acceleration and rights
Hardware encoding can shorten supported jobs, but it needs compatible graphics hardware, drivers, codec choices, and settings. An unsupported filter or output can return the work to software processing. Compare the resulting quality and file size rather than judging the job only by speed.
The online-video function still depends on the source site and the user’s permission to save its content. Site changes can break extraction, and conversion does not change copyright or service terms. Use downloadable material that the owner permits, then keep its source record beside the converted file.
