PlayerFab plays local video and audio files, movie-disc folders, movie ISO images and supported optical discs. A file can open directly for one session, while selected directories can enter a poster-based library. PlayerFab reads and indexes the source media in that directory.
Disc-style sources have two playback paths. Menu Mode keeps the original navigation when the source contains it. Simple Mode starts the main title directly. That difference affects access to chapters, alternate titles and extras rather than merely changing the appearance of the playback controls.
Direct playback avoids an unwanted library entry
Drag and drop or the file browser opens one item without requiring its parent folder in the library. Library indexing scans a selected directory and associates recognized titles with posters and metadata. These paths suit different jobs: one answers an immediate playback request, while the other creates a browsable local catalog.
Automatic matching can choose the wrong title, artwork or metadata. The match needs correction instead of becoming trusted information merely because a poster appeared. The corrected match changes the library entry used for browsing.
A VOB file is only part of a DVD structure
A complete VIDEO_TS folder contains VOB, IFO and BUP files. The folder carries relationships for title order, menus, chapters, subtitles and audio tracks. Opening one VOB can play its video segment, but that isolated file may lack the navigation context held by the other files.
Menu Mode uses the preserved DVD navigation. Simple Mode bypasses that route and begins the main title. If an extra or alternate cut matters, Simple Mode can skip the path that exposes it. Keeping an authorized DVD copy as a complete folder avoids the missing-context problem created by collecting only selected VOB segments.
An ISO extension does not prove it contains a movie
PlayerFab can open a movie-disc ISO through drag and drop, the file browser or a library directory. When the image contains an original disc menu, the player can expose its chapter, audio and feature navigation.
A software installation ISO or arbitrary data image falls outside this documented movie workflow. The .iso suffix only describes the container. It does not identify the content as a DVD or Blu-ray image that PlayerFab can navigate.
Windows must detect the optical drive first
A Blu-ray disc needs a drive that can read Blu-ray media. A DVD-only drive cannot substitute. An external drive also needs a stable USB connection, and Windows must recognize it before PlayerFab can select it. File Explorer or Device Manager can reveal whether the operating system sees the hardware.
UHD media introduces another compatibility boundary. A standard Blu-ray drive does not automatically satisfy UHD drive requirements. Firmware and the operating-system path also affect compatibility. HDR video depends on compatible graphics hardware and a suitable display connection. Three-dimensional output and advanced audio follow their own hardware paths.
During playback, PlayerFab can select audio, subtitle, chapter and speed options or save a frame snapshot. Those controls act on content the source and hardware expose. If the disc structure omits an alternate track or the output chain cannot carry a format, selecting another control inside the player cannot create it.
