Overview

R-Studio is a data-recovery program for scanning disks, reconstructing damaged filesystems, and copying recoverable files to safe storage. It can work with deleted partitions, formatted volumes, disk images, and computers reached through a recovery agent. R-Studio does not repair the original disk in place. Its job is to read evidence from the source and save the recovered result somewhere else.

Stop writing first

Deleted file data often remains on a disk until another write reuses the same sectors. Starting the operating system, installing R-Studio, downloading updates, or saving an ordinary document can overwrite material that was still recoverable. The source disk should therefore stop serving as the active system as soon as the loss is noticed.

R-Studio must not be installed on that source, and recovered files must not return to it. A second disk needs enough room for the output. If the plan also creates a full image, storage may be needed for both the image and the recovered files. Saving to another partition on the same physical device does not remove the risk because the write still reaches the source hardware.

Image before scanning

A sector-by-sector image captures readable parts of a disk into another file. R-Studio can scan that image instead of repeatedly operating the original drive. This is especially useful when a disk disconnects, develops unreadable areas, or becomes less stable with continued use.

Software imaging has a limit. Clicking, grinding, repeated resets, or disappearance from the system firmware can indicate physical failure. Running more scans may worsen that condition. R-Studio cannot make damaged heads, electronics, or media reliable, so an important physically failing disk belongs with a recovery laboratory rather than a long do-it-yourself scan.

Two recovery paths

R-Studio first searches for existing and reconstructed partitions. A good partition result can preserve filenames, directories, and other filesystem records. Previewing several files helps distinguish the correct result from an older or false partition candidate. A long list of filenames is not enough if the previews fail.

Known File Types scanning follows file signatures when filesystem records are gone. It can find recognizable document or media content, but it cannot recover the original names and folder tree from signatures alone. Thousands of files may therefore arrive in generated folders with generic names. Each important file still needs to open correctly after recovery.

Remote machines

R-Studio Agent lets another workstation scan, image, and recover from an affected computer over a network. An emergency agent can start when the installed operating system no longer boots. This arrangement keeps the full interface and destination storage on the working computer.

Remote recovery adds setup work. The agent must be reachable, firewall rules must allow the connection, and the installed edition must support the required operation. Network speed also affects imaging time. An unstable connection is a poor substitute for attaching a healthy removable drive when the source itself is already unreliable.

Verify the output

A completed scan is a map of possible data, not proof of successful recovery. R-Studio can preview supported files before copying them, which helps choose between several recognized partitions and detect corrupt content. After saving, important documents should open from the destination and large media files should play beyond their first seconds. Only then should anyone repartition, format, or reuse the original disk.
