GiliSoft Video Editor is a task-based editor for cutting footage, joining clips, splitting long recordings and changing the visible frame. It can also burn subtitles into a video, place watermarks, add music and adjust basic picture properties. Unlike a full production system built around many synchronized tracks, GiliSoft Video Editor presents focused modules for common changes and writes the result to a new media file.
Cutting keeps selections
The cutter marks one or more ranges inside a source file. An easy cut handles start and end points, while the fuller cut path can combine trimming with crop, rotation, subtitles, watermarks and picture adjustments. Previewing the exact boundary matters when speech or motion continues across the chosen frame.
A cut that uses compatible streams can avoid unnecessary conversion, but edits that change the picture require encoding. The output should be played around every cut point before the source is removed. A valid file can still contain a clipped word or a repeated frame when the selected boundary was imprecise.
Joining depends on format
GiliSoft Video Editor can place several clips into one file. Sources that share a compatible format can follow the faster joining route. Mixed formats need a target format, because the editor must create one consistent video and audio stream for the finished file.
Resolution, frame rate and orientation can differ even when filenames end with the same extension. The joiner has to reconcile those properties. A portrait phone clip placed beside a landscape recording may gain bars or a changed frame unless crop and output dimensions are chosen deliberately.
Splits follow a rule
The splitter can divide a recording at manual positions, regular time intervals or a target file size. A time rule works for equal chapters, while a size rule is useful when a delivery service rejects large uploads. Manual points fit content that has natural scene boundaries.
Automatic splitting does not understand a sentence or camera cut. A fixed interval can land in the middle of speech, and a size target can produce uneven playing times because compressed scenes use different amounts of data. The generated parts need a quick boundary check before distribution.
Crop changes the frame
Crop removes black bars, unwanted edges or part of the recorded screen. Rotation corrects phone footage captured in the wrong orientation, and resize prepares a different pixel frame. These operations change the exported picture; they do not recover detail that was outside the original recording.
Changing the aspect ratio can stretch people or objects if the new dimensions do not match the crop. A safer sequence is to crop to the intended shape, preview it, then choose an output size with the same proportion. GiliSoft Video Editor writes these decisions into the new file.
Text becomes permanent
Subtitle import accepts common subtitle files and places the text at a chosen position with font controls. A watermark can use text, an image, another video or an animated image. Both can be limited to a selected section or shown throughout the output.
Once the editor burns subtitles or a watermark into the picture, a normal player cannot switch that layer off. Spelling, timing and safe margins should be checked before export. Keeping the original subtitle file and unmarked source preserves a route for later corrections.
Sound joins the export
Background music or narration can be added to a video before saving. The added track becomes part of the exported audio stream. If the source already has speech, its level and the new track need enough separation for dialogue to remain understandable.
GiliSoft Video Editor is not a multitrack audio workstation. It handles the soundtrack attached to this video job rather than a large mix with automation across many buses. Complex noise repair or separate microphone editing is better completed before the cleaned audio enters the video module.
Encoding sets the result
The output controls determine format, resolution, frame rate and bitrate. A larger bitrate can preserve more detail but increases file size. Reducing resolution saves space but cannot later be reversed without inventing pixels. Device presets still need a playback test on the intended screen.
Every operation that crops, rotates, adds text or changes visual properties requires a rendered output. The source remains the recovery point if encoding fails or the chosen preset looks wrong. Saving to a separate filename protects that original while the edited copy is checked.
