Zomato is a restaurant discovery and food delivery app for Android and iPhone. The app download is free, while food orders carry their own charges and Zomato Gold adds an optional paid membership. Its delivery service connects customers, restaurants, and delivery partners across India.
Restaurant discovery
Search accepts restaurants, cuisines, and individual dishes. Restaurant cards show ratings and estimated delivery times, while detail pages provide menus, photos, and customer reviews. Users can browse food categories or narrow the results through filters before choosing a restaurant.
Veg Mode changes the selection to vegetarian food and pure-vegetarian restaurants. It also offers a vegetarian-only delivery fleet choice during ordering. Switching to Healthy mode displays meal recommendations alongside a Healthy Score guide and meal nutrition indicators.
Ratings and written reviews also work as contributions. Users can rate a meal or review a restaurant, and those contributions help populate the information other customers browse.
Place an order
An order combines the food selection with a contact number and delivery address. Zomato sends the request to the restaurant and coordinates delivery through its platform. When users place an order, the app displays the total with delivery and other applicable charges.
Payment options include UPI, payment cards, digital wallets, netbanking, and cash on delivery. The Apple app also offers advance ordering: users schedule a later lunch or dinner instead of requesting the meal immediately.
Follow delivery
Live tracking follows the order from payment confirmation through delivery progress. The order screen shows its current status and estimated arrival time; a map displays the delivery route while the order travels. Delivery times remain estimates and can change.
The tracking screen includes a help-and-support control. Customers can use in-app chat for an order problem, keeping the support request within the same app as the order.
Food on a train
Train ordering starts with a valid passenger PNR and a food choice. Zomato arranges delivery to the designated seat or berth at a covered station. The passenger must remain at that seat or berth while the train stops at the chosen station.
Zomato does not promise delivery at another station if the passenger leaves the train before the selected station. A delayed train can prevent delivery; the service does not guarantee fulfillment after such a delay.
Zomato Gold
Gold is a separate membership within the service. Members receive applicable restaurant offers and delivery-charge discounts on eligible home-delivery orders. Eligibility depends on the partner restaurant, delivery distance, and minimum order value that the app communicates during ordering.
Some restaurants and cash-on-delivery orders can fall outside these benefits.
District
District is a separate app for dining bookings, movies, events, and shopping experiences. It belongs to the same parent company, alongside Zomato’s food delivery business.
